Salt River Canyon
Heading out of Phoenix on U.S. 60 take a drive up the Salt River Canyon's winding roads and be amazed at the scenic canyon walls and mesas. In the summer when it's hot you can stop off at the Salt River and go on a 6 hour tubing trip. A very relaxing voyage though at times it does get very crowded especially on the weekends.
Lyman Lake State Park
The White Mountains is the place to go in the summer if you want to get away from the heat and Lyman Lake is a reason to go. Lyman Lake (3 miles long) was formed in 1915 when the Little Colorado River was dammed up for irrigation purposes. Since then the lake has been a popular spot for fishing, boating and swimming or just a place to get away and relax. - St. Johns 520-337-4441
Springerville Volcanic Field
Over 700,000 years ago twin volcanoes erupted and left behind much of its remains. There are a couple routes you can take to get a great view of the volcanic field. The best spot would be atop Green's Peak, the highest point of Springer Field. The Round Valley Chamber of Commerce will be happy to supply you with a driving tour brochure - Springerville 520-333-2123

Petrified tree trunks cover the grounds of the National Park whose cells had fossilized some centuries ago. There are many walking trails and a 28 mile paved road for your exploration. - 520-524-6228
