The Arizona Biltmore Resort was one of Phoenix’s first resorts when it opened in 1929, and the buildings show the influence of consulting architect Frank Lloyd Wright in the use of pre-cast concrete blocks that bear a geometric pattern resembling palm trees.
The Biltmore’s architect of record was Albert Chase McArthur, who was Harvard-educated and Wright-trained and developed the hotel with his brothers, Charles and Warren. It has had many owners since then and is owned today by Morgan Stanley.
The hotel, known today as the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa, has drawn U.S. Presidents and celebrities as well as other travelers. The songwriter Irving Berlin reportedly composed “White Christmas” while sitting poolside, and honeymooners at the resort have included Ronald and Nancy Reagan and Clark Gable and Carole Lombard. The tequila sunrise was created by a bartender at the hotel in 1940. There have been a number of movies filmed at the Biltmore. Scenes from the movie, Waiting to Exhale were shot in the bar.
The hotel has 739 guest accommodations ranging from rooms to suites, plus eight pools, two 18-hole golf courses, seven tennis courts, four restaurants, and a spa and fitness center. Many wedding receptions are held at the Biltmore because of the the unique atmosphere and variety of amenities the resort offers.
The resort is located in north Phoenix and the location offers the ability to quickly reach any of the main metro Phoenix events and attractions.
Plan ahead when making a reservation at the Arizona Biltmore. The hotel has many conferences and meetings and very high occupancy during the high season in Arizona. Many Arizona residents stay at the Biltmore during the summer as staycation.
